Fourteen Twentysix - Lighttown Closure
A storm has passed.
The album starts off on a surprisingly light note, painting a serene landscape with a hopeful look at a new horizon. The following tracks ring out with a driving energy, pounding, grungy garage drums, showing that life can be strong. This raw, realworldly energy carries through on many of the songs, giving them a vibrant and rich texture, a departure from the rather stark drones that characterized Songs to Forget.
A troubled past.
The album unmistakably still breathes a dark atmosphere and has its quieter moments. Tracks like Tonight I look back at a troubled past, and about halfway the album finds it’s emotional center in the near spiritual track Descending. But its not all dark and some remarkably uplifting moments, such as celebrating hope on the moving sonic Signals in the Sky result in a more mature and varied musical palette. After an epic 65 minutes journey everything quiets down with the heartfelt White Paint, pure and devoid of exuberant layers of synthesizers and effects. Lighttown Closure finally leaves us then, back in the dark with the dramatic, haunting introspective Lashes repeating the words "Its all over now" until they become a soothing muse...
